Abstract

The tradition of hanging mistletoe at Christmas time originates from Norse and Celtic religions. Mistletoe was used in winter solstice celebrations for hundreds of years before it became associated with the Christmas tradition of "kissing under the mistletoe". It was used as decoration due to it being one of the few plants that would bloom during the cold winter months.
